Is Year Round School A Good Idea?
Year-round school: A bad idea. Each year, children get excited for summer vacation. They make plans with friends, go on trips, and sometimes go to camp. However, 5% of American schools have now gone to a year-round schedule.
This is a bad idea because kids need a break from school. School is an amazing thing, but sometimes children need a break from all that information.
Kids also make plans for the summer, like going on trips and to camp. Parents look forward to summer so that they can spend time with their children. In year round school, there is unfortunately not much time for that. Also, some kids go to camp every summer, and have friends there that they look forward to seeing. In year round school, kids are not able to see their friends that they would otherwise never see.
And, in order to pay for cars a and college, children use their summer to get a job and work for money. Sometimes kids need that money to support their families. This is not something you should take away from children.
Interviews of real-life children:
Q. Marti, Do you think that kids should go to school year round?
A. No, I don't think that kids should go to school year round. Ḯ know I look forward to summer, and because of this, I don't think kids should have to go to school year round. (murmurs) It's a terrible thing…
Q. Athena, what are your thoughts on this topic?
A. Kids that have year round school are miserable. Why would you want to break children's spirits? All round school =equals= all round NO REASON TO LIVE. Telling a child that they have all year round school is impaling them with the harsh blade of adulthood.
Q. Athena, what would you like to say to those that invented year round school?
A. Can you give me a minute to think of something appropriate…? If you would please go to a planet where you understand that all year round school is disrespectful to childhood, i would greatly appreciate that.
Q. Athena, how would you react if MVM was changed to year round?
A. (silence) I would become so enveloped in disappointment and shock that I would not get out of bed for three years and I would give up on all my hopes and dreams.
